The Power Of Critical Thinking

Let’s admit it, our brains are capable of much more than we use them for. We are all guilty of turning our brain to ‘auto-pilot’ and just floating through the day. I believe that if we take the time to truly and critically think about everything we do we will amaze everyone, including ourselves. Here are six animations designed to help you identify different aspects of critical thinking and learn how to use them to help you think your best.

5 Business Rules Your Should Go Ahead And Break

There is no shortage of advice floating around the world, especially when it comes to business. As this advice gets more widely accepted it becomes a series of “rules” that the majority of people like to follow. The truth is that those rules aren’t going to work for everyone. Here are 6 of them that I think you should go-ahead and break.

1. Never Work With Friends and Family – Be clear about each person’s role and the expectations that you have for them and you won’t have any problems. There are plenty of successful businesses out there run by families and best friends.

2. Get Your MBA – You will learn more from experience in the business world than you ever could in a classroom. Learn from every opportunity you get and learn from the people you know. THat all combined is better than any MBA.

3. You Need A Business Plan – Sometimes you have to wing-it a little bit before you know exactly where you’re going.

4.Never Work For Free – Don’t need a paycheck to get value from a work experience. If you have an opportunity to learn a new skill or develop one of your skills to another level, take it!

5. Diversify Your Client Base – There’s nothing wrong with selling to your own tribe of people who happen to be very similar. Don’t exhaust your resources trying to sell to people who don’t want or don’t need what you’re selling just for the sake of having a diverse client base.

Replacing Negative Thoughts

Negative thoughts don’t do anyone any good. They bring down your mood and outlook which in turn makes the entire day seem longer and less enjoyable. They also keep you from doing your best or being your best.  If you want to be more successful and happier in general you have to get rid of some of those dragging and nagging thoughts.

Here are a few ways to drop some of those negative thoughts…
1. Listen to your favorite song
2. Go somewhere you love to go or somewhere you haven’t been but always wanted to see.
3. Grab one of your favorite books or a new book you know you’ll love.
4. Take a nap.
5. Spend time with your loved ones. Friends, family, all of the above.
6. Spend some time doing one of your favorite hobbies. Playing music, taking photos, writing, etc.
7. Write your thoughts down on paper and then throw them away.
8. Cook one of your favorite meals.
9. Go for a walk.
10. Get or give a hug.

Be A Creature Of Highly Effective Habits

Leadership is a trait and a skill that is valued in any person in any position. So how do you know if you’re a leader or not?  Being “in charge” doesn’t necessarily make you a leader. Here are 3 habits of highly effective leaders that you should look for in yourself.

1. Leaders ask the questions that no one else is asking. They look beyond the minimum information that they need to know and dig for more. Part of this stems from their natural curiosity but part of this also comes from their drive to be more than average.

2. Leaders can look at anything from several different perspectives. They are able to listen and actually understand other’s points of view. This lets them combine different perspectives to produce the best solution or outcome.

3. Leaders create a usable system. People like to break things down into little parts. Leaders like to combine those different systems to open up new possibilities.

Something to keep in mind is that all leaders do make mistakes, in fact, all people make mistakes. The difference is how handle the situation after it’s said and done. Leaders always learn from their mistakes and approach them as an opportunity to grow.

John F. Kennedy wrote that “leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.” The good leaders (almost) never forget this.

Leading With Values

Think about people who have made a difference in the world, did they stand for something?  The answer is usually yes and the key to being remembered as a leader on any level is to hold true to your values. When you let your character and your values shine through everything you do you won’t leave anything to regret. I found a great video from the Harvard Business Review on the topic and decided to share it with all of you.

The Universal Language

How can tell how someone is feeling without them ever saying a word? By reading and understanding body language.  Dr. Nick Morgan, author of Trust Me: Four Steps to Authenticity and Charisma, explains how you can harness the power of your unconscious mind to communicate more effectively.  Give more message more power by complimenting it with your body language.  Connect with people on a more personal level by understanding their body language. It’s a win-win situation for everyone!

The Obvious Way To Improve Your Business Part: 2

We started this series by pointing out that a big part of your company’s future lies in the hands of your employees.  They can help increase production, revenue and customer loyalty.  So, what are you doing for your employees to give them a reason to do their best?  This series has several ways that you can make sure your employees are doing their best work.

Make sure to share your success. Most of your company’s wins come from the employees so make sure to recognize those successes. Go above and beyond for your employees and they will do the same for you. Recognize their hard work and they will keep working hard. Institute an annual celebration with some kind of award ceremony and let them nominate and vote for each other. You are creating a feeling of closeness and pride which helps build the loyalty between the employees and the company.

Make fun a priority in your company. Letting everyone show their fun side is a great way to get to know everyone a little better. The closer your employees get the better. Not only are you building loyalty to the company but then to each other. Even if it’s something small like a daily trivia quiz, it will help your employees relax and reduce stress which results in an overall increase in productivity.
